I am a synesthetic surrealist.
I try to reflect - as much as possible - themes found in nature, like the cycles of transition: life, growth, decay and death; as well as movement and stagnation, while also keeping true to who I am, as an artist. As a surrealist, I am not hampered down by the daily demands of logic. I do not paint or create what others see: "the real world," as you call it. I do, however, struggle with a desire and need to express my Unconscious - a world that dwells within the bounds of what is real and that which is beyond the fantastic. To approach such manifested visions from the fusion of the worlds in which I speak of with logic in mind, you'd be driven mad. That is not my aim. Therefore, I urge you to feel the creations I have crafted and open yourself up to them from a non-logical standpoint. ~ Frances
The conceptual explanation of ¡|°
¡|° is an idiogram ~ a symbol I've been using for many years now that represents the concept of my work without having a specific sound to do so.
¡|° is about my personal journey. When I create something with my hands - be it a painting, the webwyrx, bone or rune dice, oracle sticks, reliquaries, or my surrealistic sculptures - I am journeying within and sharing my journey with others.
The "¡" is lower than "i" and still lower yet than "I" - however, it is not used because I feel that i am beneath others - not at all, ¡ represents me in the sense that ¡ am but one person among so many within the world who is on a personal journey. The "|" eludes to the journey itself - as, to me, it looks like a staff or walking stick, which I myself must use in order to walk around. The "°" is a degree, of sorts, but it is also a circle - it, for me, symbolizes the seasons and web of life.
Therefore, ¡|° represents the concept that "¡ Journey, full-circle" when I... Create.
